Metroid Metal presents Expansion Pack (the new EP)

It’s been 2.5 years since I first approached the now-members of MM to play this stuff live. The songs gained new life with the live project, so Varia Suite happened.

We’re kind of a band now, and bands play shows. Other MM songs have slipped into the setlists over the years, and those songs have earned a sound of their own as well. So with that, we are happy to introduce Expansion Pack – the new EP.

Consider it an add-on to the Varia Suite album. It’s a 27 minute collection of 6 songs – one track that we haven’t played live before (first time is PAX).

EP will be available for download the weekend of PAX (9/4/10), and you can pay what you want for it on Bandcamp. If you want a CD with super-fun artwork (by Robbie Player, the guy that did the VS art), it will be available for an unreasonably low price from Silent Uproar Records. It’s really just an expansion on songs that are already available, and an extention of the Varia Suite record. However, we’ve grown as a band, and we’ve grown in our production as well. It kicks pretty hard. We hope you like it. :) It’s a nice little upgrade.

Here is a better quality sampler of the album on Bandcamp if you don’t want the distractions of that video. ;)

We’ll be putting out more info about the record with some video from the drum recording session and a full song in the coming weeks, because HEY! You know! Choo choo!

Listen to the new “City Theme” (Stemage) from the Upcoming Alpha Squad for 360

NEW SONG!

The first full length track from the upcoming Alpha Squad is available on the Stemage bandcamp page. It’s the KMFDM inspired City Theme. Also FOOTAGE and MM HYPE.

http://stemage.bandcamp.com/

Also, here’s the first gameplay footage and a contest/alpha demo for the PC:

http://www.indiepubgames.com/game/Alpha_Squad

(it’s definitely the SmashTV+Zelda mashup I’ve been hearing about. YAY!) If you can get the demo working, there’s a bunch more music in there too, but getting XNA games to run on PCs can be difficult. Feel free to try, but the game will be out on 360 soon enough! :) Here’s a few more updates from the official site.

On the MM front, there’s some big stuff coming. We’ll be talking it about it soon (PAX is also soon!). I mauled a power supply getting this stuff together. I’m pretty sure the mini-project caused my cat to stress out. Anyway, that part of it is over, and we can all celebrate soon.

Kisses!

Metroid Metal at PAX 2010

Yay! A show! Metroid Metal is heading to Seattle to take over the Penny Arcade Expo, Sept 3-5, 2010. We’ll be playing with The Minibosses, Protomen, Paul and Storm, Anamanaguchi, MC Frontalot, and Jonathan Coulton. OH DEAR.

You can read up about PAX at www.paxsite.com. There are some surprises coming between now and then, so stay tuned… like you do with… the TV or something. Following on Facebook or Twitter is the best way to stay updated.

Later!

New Metroid Metal track is live for sponsors!

After many moons, and many masters, it’s finally done! But what is it?

It’s from Metroid Fusion. That’s all I’ll say for now. If you are a sponsor, you can click here to nab the track. If you are a “silly commoner”, you will be able to download the track (with some special artwork) this Sunday, 6/6. Put it on the calendar!

New Metroid Metal track is almost done! But in the meantime,

Here’s SOMETHING to listen to…

It’s off to to sir Chunkstyle for the low end and a few other parts, but yeah – done soon. It’s kinda heavy.

SO WHILE YOU WAIT, check out this sampler from a new project I just finished. I’ve been given the opportunity to compose my first soundtrack for a video game. A bit backwards right?

The game is called Alpha Squad, a shooter/adventure game developed by Dragon Divide coming out on Xbox Live this summer. The soundtrack will be purchasable (cheap) through Bandcamp, and is over 40 minutes in length. THIS is why you haven’t heard the new MM track yet. ;)

Here’s a quick sampler of 3 tunes from the game – City, Sewer, and Winter levels:

To hear more upcoming tracks, info on release and to stay up with news on the game, you can follow the Stemage Facebook page. There’s other new stuff on there too.

And here’s some super cool artwork (click for hi res):

New MM track soon!

Rock n roll,

Grant

PAX Happened. Sweet. Now what?

Where is the new Metroid Metal song? When is the next show? What the heck is that?

Thanks to the fans, the Penny crew, the Enforcers, and all the awesome bands that helped make the PAX East concert experience what it was. The lineup this year was crazy solid. Be sure to check out tunes from The Protomen, AnamanaguchiMC Frontalot, The Video Game OrchestraPaul and Storm, & Jonathan Coulton. WHAT A TASTY LIST!

There’s a good bit of footage of the MM set online, including the bouncy ‘troids that were quickly dismantled by the crowd (for good reasons – they be dangerous):

In addition to the actual MM show, chunkstyle, Cheddar, and myself were lucky enough to provide a rock backbone for the Jonathan Coulton show on Saturday night with Paul and Storm. Oh my it was a blast! You can check out some footage from the show here. (thanks danimal!)

So what now? Where is the new Metroid Metal track? Here’s a quick list of stuff going on:

I’ve been sinking time into a soundtrack for an Xbox Live Indie game coming out this summer. I’ll be posting more details and track samples soon on my Stemage Facebook page, but it will be a full length album for sale on Bandcamp. So stay tuned.

I’ve been working hard on a full length instrumental Stemage record due out later this year. There first track from that can be heard on the Facebook page right now.

I just finished a track on the new IWADON Tribute Album covering Ninja Warriors from the SNES. You can stream that track on www.iwadon.com. It’s the first full game cover I’ve done on my own that isn’t Metroid. Sup with that?

Chunkstyle is putting the finishing touches on the new Yes Mayhem record, a full album of original material written by chunkstyle and performed by a collection of chunk’s musical brethren – including Cheddar on drums, myself, Xoc, Ryan8bit, and others. Think of it as chunk’s own personal supergroup – creating a record with an amazing amount of variety and punch. This album will RULE. He’s posting updates on the project over at www.chunkstyle.net.

Danimal is hard at work with Arm Cannon as always, but he’s also tracking a new demo for his balls-out original project WeaponX and venturing into some super-secret video production antics. This I gotta see.

When Kirby isn’t overly busy being sexy, he’s still doin’ it live with Temp Sound Solutions. If you haven’t gotten your hands on the latest record, NYPWP9, it’s their best one yet. Go do that.

So yeah, we’re all busy. Between 2 albums of new material, I haven’t been able to finish the new Metroid Metal track yet, but it’s being worked on hhhhhard. It should be a hitter – perfect for the live group. It’s been requested a lot.

MM live? Nothing is on the public schedule yet for the next MM Live show (as you can see), but we are not done popping inflated ‘troids. That’s all I’ll say for now.

Ever since last weekend, I haven’t been able to stop thinking back to 2003 when I did that first MM tune on my 8-track. I never thought it would go beyond that – much less spawn a band with the coolest guys ever. Thank you super-cool bandmates, and thank you everyone for listening. This project wouldn’t have lasted 7 full years if it wasn’t for the people giving the tunes attention. Thank you all a million times over.
